Ooredoo Shares Details of its Leadership in eSports in Middle East Region at Mobile World Congress 2022

Barcelona, Spain and Doha, Qatar

Ooredoo shared details of its pioneering eSports venture at global industry convention, Mobile World Congress 2022 being held this week in Barcelona, Spain.

With the gaming industry growing exponentially worldwide – and the GCC region being one of the fastest-growing markets for eSports, with almost 5% year-on-year growth in terms of market value – Ooredoo Qatar embarked upon a journey to position itself as a leader in the field and establish eGaming as an important future growth stream. This journey began in 2021 with the launch of Ooredoo’s own eSports brand, Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land.

Ooredoo partnered with Qatari eSports experts Quest LLC to create and develop Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land and Ooredoo Arena, the tournament arm of the brand. Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land offers gamers a platform on which they can showcase their skills and connect with other gamers in Qatar and further afield. Thousands of gamers have taken part in events, with the tournaments reaching millions around the world via social media and other platforms.

Through the Ooredoo Arena tournaments, gamers can also get the chance to secure a contract to compete for the Ooredoo Professional eSports Team. The Ooredoo eSports Professional Team will participate in leading events around the world, including Ooredoo’s planned FIFA 2022 Ooredoo eCup which is set to be hosted in Qatar and will be run on a similar format to the FIFA World Cup™, with countries’ teams competing against one another.
Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land is supported by a number of further gaming initiatives. Gamers can enhance their experience with Gaming Add-ons offering extra data for specified games and the option to redeem virtual currency to enhance their gaming profiles, while Channel 0, the dedicated eSports channel on Ooredoo tv, live-streams Ooredoo Arena gaming events and other gaming-related content. Ooredoo Arena PUBG: Mobile and Fortnite tournaments broke through viewership record numbers and ranked as the most-watched events in January 2021.
In firm evidence Dell Technologies, the world’s leading technology company, shares Ooredoo’s optimism for the growth of the eSports industry in the region. Within the existing and longstanding frameworks of collaboration, Ooredoo & Dell Technologies are expanding their multi-faceted, long term partnership to include collaboration in the eSports and eGaming industry. This relationship will cement Ooredoo’s & Dell Technologies’ commitment to provide end to end solutions to get players into the game!
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Abdulla Al Thani, Chief Executive Officer, Ooredoo Qatar, said: “A key part of our corporate strategy is a commitment to explore new, previously unaddressed areas in order to exploit potential we see in such areas. While eSports is very new, we have seen exponential growth and incredible success with our brand Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land and in consumer reaction. Our aims were threefold in establishing the brand: to broaden customer perception of Ooredoo to include the provision of exciting gaming and digital experiences; to further increase customer loyalty; and to establish areas of future growth, driven by dedicated eGaming products and services. We are delighted to share details of our eGaming journey at such a prestigious industry event, and look forward to sharing more news as we progress along this exciting journey.”
With the eGaming industry currently estimated to eclipse the annual worldwide box office, music streaming and album sales, as well as the combined annual take of the top five wealthiest sports leagues, Ooredoo will continue to invest in innovation and technology to take its eGaming venture to the next level.
