Sport and Health

At Ooredoo, we believe in encouraging an active lifestyle for all of Qatar. Our CSR strategy supports a series of activities year-round for people at all levels – from beginners looking to get fit, through to sportsmen and women at the peak of their chosen fields.

Initiatives include the Ooredoo Marathon, an annual event that brings thousands of people out onto the streets of Qatar. With a range of races – including a children’s section and a full marathon – the Ooredoo Marathon is one of Qatar’s key community health activities.

As the exclusive telecom sponsor for the Aspire Zone Foundation’s “Step into Health” programme, we encourage the community to get fit by walking every day.

Ooredoo also sponsors a number of sporting heroes, to inspire the young people of Qatar to feel pride in their nation’s prowess. Current sponsorships include Nasser Al Attiyah, the only Arab national to have won the Dakar Rally and a champion in racing, power boating and shooting.

Plus, on the health side, Ooredoo continues to support projects that help people across the community. In 2014, we signed a partnership with the Qatar Cancer Society to support cancer prevention in Doha through a dedicated facility called “The Ooredoo Cancer Awareness Centre.”

We also continue to support the Fahad Bin Jassim Kidney Centre at the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), which provides dialysis facilities for 400 patients every week who suffer from kidney disease.

Ooredoo also supports an annual Free Medical Camp for low-income workers who do not have easy access to healthcare facilities, and encourage our staff to receive free medical check-ups on our Ooredoo Health Days.
