Topics on Web3.0 Discussed, Qatar’s Potential as Hub for Start-ups Showcased

Doha, Qatar

Qatar’s leading ICT provider and staunch supporter of innovation has staged an online event with its world-leading innovation partner Plug and Play.

Attendees from across the globe were virtually present at the event, which took place recently via Zoom and attracted over 350 registrants.
The event featured industry global experts sharing insights into how 5G has been enabling Web 3.0 for individuals and corporates across the world. Discussions covered cutting-edge technology applications and Silicon Valley trends for IoT, MetaVerse, Smart Cities and Blockchain Decentralised Wireless Networks, among other topics.

In addition, Ooredoo had the opportunity to showcase its pioneering strength within the Web 3.0 space in the region through its broadcast of the latest Ooredoo Nation – Gamers’ Land tournament in the metaverse, complete with NFTs, or exclusive digital artworks.

Qatar’s telecomms leader also impressed the audience with its ICT portfolio of solutions, and with the robust 5G and fibre infrastructure foundation in place ready to host the world’s largest sporting event being held in Qatar later this year; the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

Attendees were also given the opportunity to understand the key role that Ooredoo plays in Qatar’s start-up ecosystem, being the first and main corporate in the country driving open innovation. Ooredoo explained its Open Innovation Framework, walking the audience through the outside-in approach – or bringing technology and solutions to Ooredoo by sourcing global start-ups – as well as the inside-out method, uncovering start-ups in Qatar by providing expertise and resources to the country.

Start-ups from different countries were able to get insights into the unique opportunities within Qatar as an enabler for their business, as well as looking at how Qatar will be transformed into the world’s first truly smart nation.

Sheikh Nasser Bin Hamad Bin Nasser Al Thani – Chief Commercial Officer at Ooredoo – said: “Our corporate strategy includes a firm commitment to investment in innovation and technology, and also to seeking, establishing and developing partnerships with world leaders in the field to enable us to drive forward our progress towards complete digitalisation. We were delighted to organise this online event in collaboration with our longstanding partner Plug and Play, and pleased to welcome so many attendees as we highlighted Qatar’s outstanding potential as a hub for start-ups. We look forward to seeing our country progress yet further towards Qatar National Vision 2030, and to seeing many more start-ups join us here as we continue to embrace innovation and digitalisation.”
