Telco Leader Supports EAA #Scoring4theGoals Campaign, Sponsors Three Key Events Highlighting UN Sustainable Development Goals
Doha, Qatar
Ooredoo has announced it supported The Education Above All (EAA) Foundation’s #Scoring4theGoals campaign, to promote and encourage sustainable living, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
Promoting the idea that sustainability is not just the responsibility of large entities and organisations, #Scoring4TheGoals was designed to leverage FIFA World Cup™ momentum in order to create a movement that will encourage alternative ways to contribute to sustainability through collaborative support of the UNSDGs. Through a series of three events, Education Above All hoped to engage a variety of stakeholders and representatives from the community.
Moza Khalid Al-Muhannadi – Director CSR, Sponsorship and Media at Ooredoo said: “As we continually grow and innovate as an organisation, Ooredoo will never lose sight of our responsibilities to the communities we serve, and to the planet as a whole. By partnering with the outstanding EAA in their #Scoring4theGoals campaign, we are proud to be driving discussion on the issues surrounding our use of precious natural resources and habitats with the aim of ensuring a better future for us all.”
#Scoring4TheGoals was intended to raise awareness of, and highlight the importance of, several of the UNSDGs: #7, Affordable and Clean Energy; #8, Decent Work and Economic Growth; #9, Industry Innovation and Infrastructure; #11, Sustainable Cities; and #12, Responsible Consumption and Production.
The first event – ‘Sailing 4 The Goals’ – kicked off on the morning of 24 November 2022 at Katara Cultural Village, with dignitaries and environmental advocates on board. Following speeches culminating in an invitation to join the #ActNow pledge, there was a short coastal cruise on the striking Katara dhows.
‘Cycle to Recycle’ was the second event, held on 6 December 2022. ‘Cycle to Recycle’ was a cycle ride through downtown Msheireb, a prime example of a sustainable city, in collaboration with UN Habitat, Msheireb and Doha Cyclists, of whom Ooredoo is a sponsor.
The third event, the closing ceremony of the Sustainable Development Goals Pavilion at the FIFA Fan Festival at Al Bidda Park, took place on 17 December 2022. The ceremony consisted of three elements: ‘Walk to Zero’, highlighting goals of zero hunger, education for all and full immunisation; a high-level panel discussion, featuring global leaders and influencers, entitled ‘All Together #Scoring4TheGoals’; and the #Scoring4TheGoals 2030 Children and Youth Sports Challenge. A video by Education Above All was also showcased.
Moza Al-Muhannadi concluded: “Collectively, we have a responsibility to ensure a sustainable future for generations to come, and this invaluable campaign has highlighted just what can be achieved towards the goal to create this sustainable future when we are all playing on the same team. We extend our thanks to Education Above All, to the other entities with whom we collaborated to make this campaign a success, and to all who joined in.”
