FAQ

VoLTE

What is VoLTE?

VoLTE stands for Voice over LTE (4G). With VoLTE enabled devices your calls connect faster and you are able to make crystal clear HD IP phone calls on our 4G network, whilst still browsing or using data applications (maps, video streaming) on 4G.
Without VoLTE, if you want to make a call, the device has to “come down” to 3G to make that call.

When is a call a VoLTE call?

When the caller’s phone is certified for VoLTE and sold by Ooredoo or its partners and he/she is connected to the 4G network.
If you are on a VoLTE call and you lose the 4G network connection your call will continue on 3G.

What are the main advantages of VoLTE?

  1. Always on 4G - make a call on 4G whilst still browsing or using data applications (maps, video streaming) on 4G
  2. Faster call setup – VoLTE calls connect up to 2 times faster
  3. Superior call quality – VoLTE calls are carried by data and this enable us to provide crystal-clear quality.
  4. Possibly improved coverage and connectivity – VoLTE connects much faster than 3G or 2G and provides coverage wherever 4G is present.
  5. Possibly better battery life - your phone won’t change networks when you want to make calls, so your smartphone’s battery life improves.

Do I have to pay extra for VoLTE?

No, VoLTE is automatically available for any customer whose device and device software is certified by Ooredoo to support it (about certified devices please see below).
Nevertheless a VoLTE phone call is charged just like a normal phone call, by the minute. If you have a pack that includes minutes we will deduct VoLTE calls from your minutes the same way we do with 3G calls.

Does VoLTE consume any data?

VoLTE calls consume a small amount of data. We don’t deduct this from your data plan and we won’t charge extra for it.

What happens if I switch off data, can I still make calls?

In this case your device will make calls on the 3G network.

Can I make international and roaming VoLTE calls?

VoLTE calls are for local calls only, on Ooredoo’s 4G network.

Can inbound roamers arriving from countries with operators using VoLTE, use their devices in Qatar with VoLTE?

No, they can’t use VoLTE in Qatar yet.

What happens if I’m on 4G and in the middle of the VoLTE call I lose the 4G connectivity and go to 3G?

The call should continue.

Will I see in any ways that my iPhone has VoLTE enabled?

I hear a slightly different ringing tone when I make VoLTE calls on my iPhone. Why is that?

This special rining tone is the designated VoLTE call on iPhone.

Is VoLTE by default enabled for iPhone users?

You have to get the latest iOS version (at least iOS 10.3.0) by going to Settings - General – Software update on your iPhone or connect your iPhone to iTunes. Please restart your iPhone after the update.

To enable VoLTE in your iPhone, just go to Settings - Cellular – Cellular Data Option – Enable 4G. Here please select “Voice & Data”.

Why don’t other smartphones support VoLTE yet?

Ooredoo is working with other device manufacturers to certify and enable their devices as soon as possible.

I have purchased a VoLTE enabled device somewhere else and I'm already connected to your 4G network; why is VoLTE not working?

Ooredoo can only guarantee that devices purchased from Ooredoo and its partners work on their network.

When will Ooredoo certify and enable other VoLTE capable devices?

We are working with a host of different manufacturers at the same time to certify devices. It is a very thorough process to make sure that we provide the best experience to our customers. In the coming months we hope more kinds of devices will be enabled to work with VoLTE.

I have the Huawei P9 device and I have restarted it after the firmware update. I still don’t see the HD sign next to 4G on the device screen

Please restart your device again, especially if you have restarted before the 1 February 2017. It should work afterwards.

Can devices work with Ooredoo’s VoLTE that I bring from another country, which previously worked with another operator with VoLTE?

Ooredoo can only guarantee that devices purchased from Ooredoo and its partners work on their network.

Three months after the cancellation of an account the account will be closed, and if you wish to take part in Nojoom, you will have to re-enrol.

Where can I find the Nojoom Terms & Conditions?

The Nojoom Terms & Conditions are available here.

What is Nojoom Status?

To reward our best Customers, Nojoom has been designed with three Status levels of Membership – Nojoom Red, Nojoom Silver and Nojoom Gold. The higher your Status, the more privileges you’ll receive

How do I earn higher Status within Nojoom?

You will earn ‘Status Points’ for your spending with Ooredoo, these points count towards Status.
You receive 1 Status Point for every 100 Riyals spent on Ooredoo Services.
Status Points can only be earned for actual spending on Ooredoo Services, so any bonuses or Nojoom Points earned via other means, such as partners, will not qualify for Status Points and upgrade.

How can I check the status of my Nojoom account?

You can always check the status of your Nojoom account by logging in at Ooredoo.qa/Nojoom.

When can I upgrade?

You can upgrade at any time. As soon as you collect enough Status Points, you will be upgraded to your earned Status.

Once I upgrade to a new Status, how long will the upgrade be valid for?

Once you upgrade to a new Status, that Status will be valid for 12 months.

Do I lose my Status Points when I upgrade to a new Status?

No, your total number of Status Points will always be the total earned in the previous 12 months. When you upgrade, you maintain the Status Points earned and can build on these to further upgrade.
instance: If you spend 6000 Riyals per month, you will earn 60 Status Points per month. After two months, you will have 120 Status Points and will upgrade to Silver After five months, you will have 300 Status Points and will upgrade to Gold. Gold is valid for 12 months, so 12 months after upgrading to Gold, you will have earned 720 Status Points in the preceding 12 months (60 per month x 12 months), so your Gold status will be renewed for another year.

How does Status downgrade work?

If you do not have sufficient Status Points to maintain your tier, you will be downgraded to the next Status down from your current. You can only be downgraded one tier at a time. So Nojoom Gold to Nojoom Silver, and Nojoom Silver to Nojoom Red. You will never be downgraded more than one Status at a time, irrespective of how many Status Points you have earned in the previous 12 months.

What happens when my Status expires?

Your status will expire after 12 months and the number of Status Points earned in the previous 12 months will be reviewed. If you have earned enough Status Points to meet the threshold (120 for Silver, 300 for Gold) then you will maintain your Status, if you have not met the threshold, then you will be downgraded to the next Status down.
