  1. Will the eSIM work while in roaming if the customer does not use the Nano SIM slot at all?
    Yes, it will work while roaming, without using a Nano SIM.
  2. How does the eSIM work?
    eSIM will work the same way as a traditional SIM, but you don’t need a physical SIM. It is embedded in the device and is activated over the air.
  3. What is the eSIM used for?
    In the future many devices will be compatible with eSIM – handsets, wearable, IoT etc.
  4. Will I be able to use the eSIM with the Apple Watch?
    Yes, Apple Watch 3 Cellular and Apple Watch 4 Cellular support eSIM. Once eSIM for Apple Watch is enabled by Apple for Ooredoo, our technology will support this.
  5. Do any Android devices support eSIM?
    At the moment Samsung Gear 2, Samsung Gear 3, Google Pixel 2, Samsung Galaxy watch, Huawei Watch 2 and in future it is expected many more Android devices will support it. Currently Samsung handsets do not support eSIM. Ooredoo will communicate when it will support eSIM for Android devices
  6. Will the customer retain their number when changing from a normal SIM to eSIM?
    Normal SIM to eSIM change is available, if the customer would like to do so. Customers will retain the same number.
  7. What devices did Ooredoo try it on and what are the manufacturers of these phones?
    Ooredoo is testing with multiple device manufactures to make sure we cover all devices enabled in Qatar. At the moment the following devices are supported:
    • iPhone XS
    • iPhone XS Max
    • iPhone XR
  8. Is the eSIM service related to the serial number of the device or the QID number and what is the scenario if the customer wants to sell their device
    eSIM is related to eSIM ID (EID) which is unique per device and the service / MSISDN is associated with QID number. If the customer wants to sell his/her device – he/she needs to remove the eSIM profile from the device by clicking the eSIM profile on the phone and remove Cellular/Data plan.
  9. Is the eSIM provided by Ooredoo enabled for laptops and iPad?
    This is not supported at the moment.
  10. how many numbers can the customer activate on 1 mobile eSIM?
    Ooredoo has tested 5 numbers on one eSIM but only one number will be active at one time.
  11. Will iPhone X support eSIM?
    No – As per Apple, iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR support eSIM. More details are available on Apple website.
  12. Apple already have eSIM capability? What do we mean enabled by apple?
    For eSIM to function, an embedded chip in the handset and operating system is required. When Apple says, it has eSIM capability, it means that, the new models of iPhone handsets have embedded chip pre – installed in the iPhone. When Apple says, it will enable eSIM, it means the new version of their operating system (iOS) needs to support the functioning of this chip.
  13. Will the customer be able to use the eSIM + normal SIM in the same device?
    Yes – customer can have 2 MSISDN (one on eSIM and other on Physical SIM). They can select one MSISDN as PRIMARY and other as SECONDARY. This is in line with the existing DUAL SIM customer experience and behaviour.
  14. What is the benefit of eSIM?
    Key benefits are:
    • Customers do not have to replace one SIM card with another when switching the mobile operator
    • Customers do not have to keep cutting the SIM card to suit the size of the slot in the device or find a SIM adaptor
    Customers can have 2 mobile plans from different operators. This means,
    • One number for business and other number for personal use
    • Have separate voice and data plans from Ooredoo
  15. How do you install the eSIM?
    No need to open the device. A QR code will be provided to the customer and they need to go to the settings of the iPhone. From settings, one needs to click Add Cellular / Data Plan and then the QR code will be scanned and the profile will be downloaded after few steps (instructions on the device, will guide the customer to complete the process)
  16. How to activate the eSIM service and what devices support it?
    Currently to activate the eSIM service you need to have a certified compatible device and supporting operating system. Once a device with operating system is available the customer needs a QR code to download the profile. This QR code will be provided by Ooredoo.
  17. Can you change the number of the eSIM any time? How? What is the process?
    Yes, the customer can change the number (MSISDN) on the eSIM, same as the current process for number change.
    If the customer has more than 1 number/profile in eSIM on the device, customers can change it by turning on the number/profile that customer wants to set. The phone will automatically set the selected number as eSIM number.
  18. Is it possible to change my current sim to eSIM?
    Yes, it is possible to change your current physical SIM to eSIM. This is subject to your handset supporting eSIM and has updated supporting software
  19. What is the definition of eSIM?
    eSIM = Embedded SIM. It is different from a physical plastic SIM card. It allows remote SIM provisioning of any mobile device, which supports this technology. The device uses a virtual embedded equivalent that cannot be removed from the device. Consumers can store multiple mobile operator profiles on a single device and switch between them remotely. Only one mobile operator services can be used at a time.
  20. Are eSIM services available for Hala or Shahry or both? And is it available for MBB?
    eSIM services are available for Hala, Shahry and MBB services.
  21. What should I do if I am unable to activate eSIM using QR code?
    If you unable to activate eSIM via QR code, please restart the phone and try again. Please check if you have a compatible device with supporting software. If it is still failing, please call Ooredoo and our Technical team will assist you.
  22. What is the procedure if my eSIM is not active after downloading the QR code?
    Please contact Ooredoo on 111 and the Ooredoo Technical team will assist you to activate your eSIM.
  23. How do I know whether my iPhone XS is ready for the eSIM?
    Please go to Settings > General > About. If you can see Digital eSIM parameter, then your iPhone is ready for eSIM.
  24. What is the procedure in the case I lose my handset? How do I stop the SIM from operating?
    If you lose your handset:
    • Change your Apple ID/Google ID password. By changing your Apple ID/Google ID password, you can prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data/Android data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes or Google Play) from your missing device.
    • Login to iCloud / Android and set Lost mode on Find my iPhone/ Find my Device. If required, Erase your device
    • Report your lost or stolen device to Police. Police might request the serial number of your device. Find your device serial number.
    • Report your lost or stolen device to Ooredoo. Ooredoo can disable the account eSIM, preventing phone calls, texts, and data use.
    • New QR code will be generated if required (if replacement phone is supporting eSIM).
  25. What is the procedure if I replace my handset?
    If you have registered your eSIM QR code to a first eSIM device then, your eSIM QR code will be linked to the first device you register it to. If you decide to switch devices in the future, you need to make sure the device is supporting eSIM and certified by Ooredoo and you may need to obtain a replacement eSIM QR Code by contacting Ooredoo. The usual eSIM replacement cost applies.
  26. What are the different ways to apply for an eSIM?
    You can apply for an eSIM through Ooredoo App Shop or from any Ooredoo retails shop.
  27. What is Dual SIM?
    Dual SIM gives you the convenience of having two phone numbers on a single Phone. You can have separate personal and business numbers, add an additional line when traveling internationally, or purchase a separate data plan. On iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR dual SIM is a combination of a physical Nano-SIM and an eSIM, which is a digital SIM that allows you to activate a cellular/data plan without having to use a physical Nano-SIM.
  28. How can I know my iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max, or iPhone XR is supporting eSIM?
    You can check by checking the Digital SIM parameter in the iPhone setting. You can follow the steps below:
    • Go Setting > General > About
    • Scroll down to Digital SIM
    The device is supporting eSIM if you can see Digital SIM with IMEI value in the setting.
  29. If I made factory reset or accidentally removed my eSIM Cellular plan, can I use the same QR code to re-activate my eSIM?
    Yes, you can re-use the same QR code up to 10 times. If you exceed 10 times, please contact Ooredoo. You may need to obtain a replacement eSIM QR Code. The usual eSIM replacement cost applies.
  • This QR Code is for your own use for the purpose of registering your eSIM profile and should be kept confidential. If you disclose this Code to others, you do so at your own risk. Ooredoo shall not be responsible nor liable for any such warranted or unwarranted disclosure on your part.
  • You will need to retain this QR Code for future re-registration of your eSIM profile. You can use this QR Code for re-registration on the same device up to 10 times. This QR code cannot be used to register your eSIM profile on more than one device.
  • If you wish to switch eSIM compatible devices, you must obtain a new QR Code in order to register your eSIM profile on the new device. In this case, you need to remove your eSIM profile from the existing device before registering your eSIM profile on the new device. To remove an eSIM profile go to your iPhone device settings and select 'Mobile Data' the phone number associated with the eSIM profile you want to remove, then select 'Remove Data Plan' and 'Remove Ooredoo Plan' to confirm selection.
  • Replacement of this QR Code is chargeable. Registration of the eSIM may not be initiated or completed and may be cancelled in case your QID does not match our records. This QR Code can only be uploaded by compatible iPhone models (iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR) operating iOS 12.1 or newer operating systems or other commercially available eSIM compatible devices.
